Quarantine 2020

Quarantine 2020

Spring is renewal even in the time of quarantine,
twigs and grass create new homes
and birdsong greets me as math and ELA
sit upon the table next to an omelet and bacon.

School has changed, teachers and friends, zoomed;
puppies at my feet, emotions mixed.  Sad, worried,
but mostly happy which is a surprise.

My nest is full, burgeoning not with chicks
but grown siblings returned; New York City
and San Francisco not safe anymore.

Mom's learned to make dumplings, flour miraculously found
(not to mention toilet paper).  Family movie nights,
board games, home movies created,
epic Nerf battles fought in my yard.

Ride my bike six feet away from neighborhood kids...
unable to hug my Dad as he's a warrior on the front lines,
protecting our nest from Corona Virus.  Six feet apart
and wearing a mask, my Dad listens to the birdsong

as I finish my homework and we count the days of quarantine.

The Unseen

image used for "The Sunday Muse" HERE
The Unseen
Chimes hang from my front porch,
have become a believer in little fairies
dispensing pixie dust.

Cobalt bottles dangle from backyard tree
evil spirits ensnared, night's witching hour
witness to moans and groans,

but come morning sun, scorched,
unable to stalk and haunt; silenced -

and my pixies are safe to play.
